Culinary Code: How to apply the principles of computer coding in the kitchen.
Curious about coding, but don’t know what it is? I get it; my husband is a software engineer and I have no idea what he does. When he starts telling me about code reviews and software languages and trees and methodologies, I smile and nod, but I’m really just dazed and confused. I may not know a lot about coding, but I do know a lot about cooking. I love to share my passion for all things food with my students, in my online cooking classes. As I was creating my materials for a recent class, I had a light bulb moment. I was at my computer breaking down my recipes and instructions into small bite-size pieces of information that I would teach in a specific order. Suddenly, I realized that cooking is a lot like coding and just like that I was inspired to share my revelation with the Geeks, Campmates, and Geeklings at THAT Conference. Through live demonstrations, group discussions, and hands-on recipe creation I will help you understand that at its core, the most basic components of coding are similar to the fundamentals of cooking. You will be inspired to apply these principles to other areas of your life to learn more, create more, and even code more, in the future. And the best part of all, you will get a chance to create your own recipe for trail mix to take and enjoy!
